Frequently Asked Questions

Is acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture is extremely safe if performed by a trained and licensed professional acupuncturist. Darren uses only stainless steel, sterilized, single-use disposable needles to keep with his office’s strict hygienic standards.

Will it hurt?

Acupuncture needles are very thin and many patients feel nothing when the needles are inserted. Sometimes a slight pinch will be felt upon insertion. A sensation of warmth, a slight ache or a gentle tingling sensation may also be perceived.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments a person will need varies. This can depend on many factors, but it is often found that noticeable improvement is made within 5 treatments. Darren will be constantly assessing your condition and working to determine whether further treatments are necessary. Chronic conditions may require a longer course of treatment.

What should I expect?

A treatment session generally lasts about 45 minutes including discussion, acupuncture & bodywork and formula prescription. Depending on the complexity of the condition, a first consultation is spent understanding the condition and discussing treatment options. Often, there is only a small portion of time left for a physical treatment on the first visit. As treatments progress, the patient's condition will be continually reassessed and the treatment plan will be modified as needed.

How should I prepare for a treatment?

Wear comfortable loose clothing. Do not come with an empty stomach, but also do not eat or drink too much.

How will I feel after acupuncture?

Everyone responds differently to acupuncture and you may feel differently from treatment to treatment. Sometimes people feel energized and other times people feel relaxed. You can generally expect to resume normal daily activities after your treatment, although it is best to avoid stressful or vigorous activities.

Do you take insurance?

We accept insurance as well as Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) debit cards.  Use the following link to submit your insurance information and we can verify your acupuncture coverage: Request Insurance Verification
